Multi-Dimensional Quoting (MDQ)

OVERVIEW

MDQ Products contain segments separated by time period on a single quote line. Thus, one Product is priced multiple times (by day, month, year or custom time segment) on a single line, where each time segment contains independent discounts and quantity.

This feature is useful for organizations selling subscription products & services, as sales reps do not have to add multiple quote lines for each time segment. Reps can also apply discounts to individual segments - for example, offering a start-up discount on the first year of a 4-year service subscription. Multiple Products with different Price Dimensions may be added to a Quote.

In the example below, an organization made a generator MDQ Product with pricing for a one-time installation fee and three years of service.

This article provides a general overview of MDQ Products and a Details section containing related MDQ Product operation details. New users should first review our MDQ Video Tutorials, then review our MDQ reference articles as needed:

SETUP

  • Add the Price Dimensions Related List to the Product Layout
  • Add any desired fields into your Segmented Line Editor on the Quote Line Field Set
  • Add the Uplifted by Package checkbox to the Product Option Layout
  • Add the Component Uplifted by Package checkbox to the Quote Line Layout

DETAILS

Currencies

  • If a Product with Price Dimensions is using multiple currencies (which are stored in separate Price Books), each currency must contain it's own Price Dimension. For example: If you have 2 Price Dimensions (Dimension A & Dimension B) and are using US Dollars and Euros, you must have 4 separate Dimensions (Dimension A: USD, Dimension A: EUR, Dimension B: USD, Dimension B: EUR).

Dates & Timing

  • If a Quote's Subscription term does not equal full year terms (e.g. 39 months), it will be rounded up when determining how many segments to create (e.g. the last 3 months of the 39 month Subscription term would be housed in "Year 4" and 4 Line Items would be created).
  • Each Subscription amount matches the last year of the original Quote.
    • If the Subscription Term is changed after adding a Yearly Segmented Product to a Quote, SteelBrick will add and/or remove segments to reflect the new term.
    • Contract start date and term match the opportunity primary quote. Quote Line Start and End Dates for yearly segments are based on the Quote Start Date.
    • The Renew Subscriptions button should NOT be used to import Segmented Subscriptions into a Renewal Quote, as it would import the Subscription as a non-segmented Product.
  •  When a new Yearly Opportunity is Contracted, one Subscription record per segment will be created.
    • Each year segment generates a separate Opportunity Product, which corresponds to the segment Quote Line on the primary Quote.
    •  The Segmented Product is added to the Quote according to the Renewal Term on the Contract.
      • Example: If the original Contract was for 3 years, but the Renewal Term is for 4 years, 4 segments (years) will be added to the Renewal Quote instead of 3.
    • Each Renewal Quote Line contains a lookup to the source Subscription record, which has a lookup to the original Quote Line. This allows the user to create a Formula field to utilize the original List Price to the Renewal Quote Line.

Other

  • MDQ Products cannot be loaded via Import Line.
  • When cloning an MDQ Product, use the "Clone with Related" button.
  • Segmented Quote Products can be placed into different Groups, even Groups with different Subscription Terms. All segments within a Segmented Quote Line are dragged and dropped with it automatically.

USE CASES

  • Sales reps can create multi-year Subscription and Renewals:
    • An uplift can be added as a Percentage at the Quote Line level, which would apply against the previous year's price; the resulting price would be entered into the Regular Price field on top of any Special or Contracted Prices.
  • Sales reps can more quickly and precisely configure multi-year Quotes that include a shortened first-year term by specifying a First Segment Term End Date on the Quote instead of manually adjusting the Term Start and End Dates on each Quote Line. For example, a non-standard fiscal year where the first year of the deal would end on the same date as the fiscal year end, then each subsequent year would be a full, 12-month year.
  • Multi-Dimensional Quote Products are supported in the following ways on an output document:
    • Group by Segment Label to group Products together by Year
    • Display Yearly segments as columns: This is similar to the Line Editor.
    • Each segment is displayed as an individual row in the table: Sales reps can show their prospects Quotes with multi-dimensional segments that are displayed as rows beneath a summary row that rolls up fields from their segments.

Caution: If an MDQ Parent Bundle is deleted from within the Quote Detail page, its components will not be deleted.

Caution: Bundle parent products cannot be MDQ products.

Hi Support Community,

We're facing a problem with bundle quantity no longer auto-populating component products line in Multi Dimensional Quote (MDQ Products line).

As a fyi, we do have Product Option set as Component and everything was working fine until we started using Price Dimensions (MDQ Products) which has overriden the 'Component' quantity function.

1. Do you know how we could get this functionality back/ reinstalled?

2. According to SB Support, we could inject a value based on the bundle parent's quantity with a price rule to the MDQ quote line, do you know what might be a solution here if we want that functionality ?

Thank you,

Sandra
