Large Quote Experience

Large Quote Experience organizes the Quote Line Editor Display for Quotes with a large number of list items.

Large Quote Experience is available in Salesforce CPQ 28.0 and newer and requires an authorized calculator. Service Cloud users will also need the Salesforce CPQ Service Cloud Integration package V4.0 or higher.

Check Enable Large Quote Experience in Line Editor package settings to begin. When enabled, Salesforce CPQ will change your Quote Line Editor display so large quotes are easier to navigate. In the examples below, we're using a Quote with 421 lines between 5 groups.

If you want to improve Quote Line Editor performance for large quotes, check out our Large Quote Performance Settings.

Note: Quote line drag-and-drop is disabled while Large Quote Experience is active.

Infinite Scrolling

You can scroll down quote lines infinitely in the Quote Line Editor instead of navigating between pages.

Single Group View

When Large Quote Experience is enabled, the Quote Line Editor will only display one group at a time in the main display. Select the Groups sidebar to switch to a different group.

Individual Pricing Table View

MDQ Pricing dimensions and the Segmented / Standard Product tables are displayed as tabs.

Fixed Quote Footer > Subtotals and Summary Rows

Subtotals and Summary Rows are locked in place at the bottom of the Quote Line Editor.

Expand Page

The Expand Page icon will expand the Quote Line Editor to display across your entire display window. Select Escape or the Expand Page icon to return to standard view.

Locked Column Table Headers

Standard and Segmented table headers are locked in one place at the top of the screen, so you won’t lose your point of reference when scrolling through a long list of line items.

Great explanation of these new features.  Just tried them out in our demo org - users will love the improvements.

I've noticed that with Large Quote Experience enabled, I can't move the lines around within the Quote Line Editor. Is this expected behavior?

@justinshor - That is correct. When Large Quote Experience is enabled, Drag and Drop functionality is no longer available.

@fshapiro @justinshor Thanks - updated the beginning of Details with a note.

if drag-and-drop is disabled, how are users supposed to move line items around or from group to group?

@Ralf - The only way to move a line item from group to group when using large quote experience (LQE) is to delete it from the source group and add it to the destination group. You will not be able to move a line within a group (or if there are no groups) to exactly the location you want when using LQE. If this is a common need, you will have to balance the use of LQE vs. the size of your quotes and your use case.

Note that you can sort the lines by clicking on the column heading which allows some degree of control. That also allows some neat workarounds if you want to get creative. For example, you can create a custom field that you add to the Quote Line Editor that allows you to add your own numbering and you can sort on this field and make changes on the fly.

@Ralf @fshapiro You can also move quote lines to other groups by making use of our new Clone to Groups feature which allows you to clone multiple quote lines and products from one group to another. More info can be found here: Clone to Groups Spring '17

We have a client that would really benefit from LQE, but they also have a hard requirement to be able to drag and drop lines between groups. Are there plans to support drag and drop with LQE in the future?  We can't use the approach @claughlin recommended because it would break our bundles (we have price rules, option constraints and other configuration that depends on bundles being whole).

The bundle structure is based on how the client's product is configured and rated.  The products are complex pieces of equipment with lots of features and product options.  On the output documents, they need to manually create quote line groups for various categories and then move quote lines into those categories.  The grouping used is deal specific, so we can't just add a "grouping" field to product and sort the output document on that field.  We have to allow manual dragging and dropping across Quote Line Groups.

With LQE turned on, only one group is displayed at a time, so I understand why the existing drag and drop functionality can't be supported.  Can one of the following be added in a future release:

  1. Allow a quote line to be drag and dropped onto a Group Name on the left of the page.  This would move the line to the end of that destination group.  Once the user has moved lines to the appropriate groups, they can open those groups and reorder the lines within the group as needed.
  2. Create a Move function similar to the Clone feature.  The user would select one or more quote lines, click the Move icon and then select the Quote Line Group to move them to.  The lines would be moved to the end of the destination group and then the user could reorder the lines within the destination group.

We as a company are within a couple months of moving to production with the Salesforce CPQ tool. We would really like to go live with the LQE option but require drag and drop lines between groups. Is this something that the Steelbrick team is investigating and will this feature potentially be available in the near future?

Thank you for the feedback. We understand the importance of drag and drop and while I cannot provide a timeline, we are in the process of investigating the ability to support drag and drop or a different method for moving lines in the Large Quote Experience. Please feel free to reach out to me for more details or to continue this conversation.
