Product Keyword Search

OVERVIEW

Search Products using the Product Keyword Search box on the Product Selection page. The search requires at least two characters and will perform a search against any managed or custom field on the Product (Product2) object.

SETUP

No setup is required.

KEY CONCEPTS

Users should be familiar with the following features:

DETAILS

This feature is available in Salesforce CPQ 28.0 and newer.

The Product Keyword Search is available as soon as you enter the Add Products page. Enter your search value and commit the search by selecting enter or the search icon. The product keyword search will search in the Product catalog against any managed or custom fields on your Product objects, then display the matching records on the Product Selection page.

If you've searched and want to reset your search results, clear the search box and commit again.

Note: The product keyword search does not search through Favorites or values stored in picklist fields.SEARCH BOX.png

Typeahead Functionality

The search box will display a dropdown menu with possible matches when you enter at least two characters. Selecting one of these matches will automatically display that specific record.

Search Filter Interaction

You can use the Product Filter before or after the Product Keyword Search to further customize your search process: We’ll explain several examples in the Use Case section.

Search 1

  1. Enter “Yellow” in Product Search.
    1. Search flow 1
      1. You’ll see a typeahead dropdown menu with Banana, M&M, Cheese, Skittles, and Starburst. Select “Skittles”.
      2. Product selection will display one record - the Skittles product.
    2. Search Flow 2
      1. Don’t select any typeahead values and select the Search icon instead.
      2. The Product Selection page will display every record containing a “Yellow” value: Skittles, M&M, Starbursts and Banana.
      3. Apply the search filter on your Product search results: Open the Product Filter and enter “Mars” in the Manufacturer search box.
      4. The Product record display will only display Skittles and Starbursts.

Search 2

  1. Set your search filter’s Food Type to “Candy” and apply.
    1. This results in Skittles, M&M, Starbursts, and Milky Way
  2. Enter “Yellow” in Product Search and select Search.
  3. This will further filter your results into M&M, Skittles and Starbursts

Search 3

  1. Enter “Yellow” in Product Search but do not select Search.
  2. Add filter values of Type = Candy and apply.
  3. Because you didn’t commit the Product Search, the results are only impacted by the Search Filter: Milky Way (not filtered out because Yellow was not searched), M&M, Skittles, and Starbursts.

Search 4

  1. Set your filter to Producer = “Mars” and apply
  2. Enter “Yellow” in Product Search and commit
    1. Results in Skittles and Starbursts
  3. Clear your Product Filter
  4. Return to the Product Search, which still contains “Yellow”, and commit the search.
    1. Since we’re no longer considering any filters, we’ll see results of Skittles, M&M, Banana and Cheese.

Search 5

  1. Establish a Hidden Filter (review Search Filters for more information on Hidden Filters.)
  2. Enter a Product Search value and commit.
    1. The results are automatically filtered through the Hidden Filter parameters.

Is there a way to search the products which are marked as a component using the keyword search?

@rboddepalli the primary concern of the Component flag is to hide the product from search results, so by design the answer is no.  I can see how it would be useful to return the parent product bundle when the keyword search matches a child component, but we don't support that today.

Thanks Mike @mhoefer , We strongly recommend adding this functionality in feature releases which provide the full potential of keyword search.
